rivalcfg command says: "E: No supported device found." (for a Rival 5 mouse)

Problem description

When trying to configure a Rival 5 mouse with rivalcfg (Ex: ./rivalcfg.venv/bin/rivalcfg --wheel-color blue) it says:
"E: No supported device found."

Installation information

• How did you install (or try to install) Rivalcfg (distribution specific package, from sources, what commands you used,...) ?

→ Installed it with: ./rivalcfg.venv/bin/pip install rivalcfg

• Was it a fresh install or an update?

→Fresh install.

• Have you already installed any older Rivalcfg version on the machine before?

→ No.

The Rival 5 support has been implemented on master but not released yet. It will be available in the next Rivalcfg version. I expect to release it at the beginning of April.

In the meantime you can install Rivalcfg from source if you do not want to wait:

./rivalcfg.venv/bin/pip install git+https://github.com/flozz/rivalcfg.git#master

Hum, it seems not... as the version number is the same, it not updated...

Try to uninstall Rivalcfg first:

./rivalcfg.venv/bin/pip uninstall rivalcfg

and then reinstall with the same command:

./rivalcfg.venv/bin/pip install git+https://github.com/flozz/rivalcfg.git#master

By default regular user cannot communicate with USB devices. Try to update udev rules with the following command:

sudo ./rivalcfg.venv/bin/rivalcfg --update-udev

it should work better after that

Two last questions for you, if you don't mind:

1. What is it called on the Rival 5 when you click a button and it plays a little "wave" of white light down the two light strips to the logo? Can it be disabled?
2. Is there a way to map multiple keystrokes like Alt-Tab to one of the mouse buttons?

1. It is called "reactive color" (--reactive-color option on the CLI), you can disable it by setting it to off.
2. Theoretically yes, some of the mice support up to 4 keys... but Rivalcfg does not support this currently.

Well I got my mouse working and configured, thank you again, it works great. The only remaining thing I'm having trouble with is being able to map buttons 6 & 7 (the side buttons that flick up and down). When I map a Function key to them they don't send that keystroke.
I've looked into it a bit and tried to determine what commands / events they are sending by using xev and xinput, but they didn't really help. Only evtest showed anything (as events 64 and 32), but I haven't been able to figure out how to translate those into keystrokes.
What should I do to get those two buttons to work?

BTW, this is the command I'm using, and it works, all buttons get mapped, it's just that buttons 6 & 7 don't work (they don't seem to send F7 and F9): ./rivalcfg.venv/bin/rivalcfg --buttons "buttons(layout=QWERTY; button1=button1; button2=button2; button3=F10; button8=F4; button9=F5; button6=F7; button7=F9)"

Also, by the way, it appears that the button mappings get saved on the mouse, which is nice, but the LED config doesn't. But I created a shell script with the rivalcfg commands to set the LEDs via udev and it works great.
