Visual display of pause state

If the user just happens to click once and never again, they might believe the program has frozen.

Some sort of visual indication should let the user know it is just paused and can be resumed.

Either:

• a subtle notification on state change, which disappears after a couple seconds
• a permanent display of the current state somewhere on the screen
