Possible to use thumbhash for a similarity search?

Has anyone used thumbhash to do a similarity search? It seems like it'd be possible, and I suspect someone else has already thought of this.

I imagine it would be the data and not the hash string itself.

I think this library is so cool. It'd be a bonus to be able to use it for a way to measure "distance" between images.
