Pydantic models for typing and validation #332

What feature should we add?
Pydantic should massively simplify the process of inbound/outbound serialization -> validation -> normalization. I suspect there are many challenges in achieving this. I've started a spike and am interested to get further input about integrating this as a replacement for our current implementation.
