Reading non-complaint grdecl files

My geologist gave me a .grdecl file produced by RMS which contains a property ConnectedChannels_only.

I am trying to read it with

with cwrap.open(file_path) as f:
    property = resdata.resfile.ResdataKW.read_grdecl(f, "ConnectedChannels_only", rd_type=ResDataType.RD_INT)

This obviously fails the check from rd_kw.py

        if kw:
            if len(kw) > 8:
                raise TypeError(
                    "Sorry keyword:%s is too long, must be eight characters or less."
                    % kw
                )

I am wondering if it would be useful to reduce the strictness of the check with an optional flag to make the library useful for such .grdecl files?
