Text_color in ObjectColumn does not work on Windows 11

The issue can be reproduced with example demo/Advanced/Table_editor_with_checkbox_column.py. It does not happen on Linux, only on Windows 11. It was observed with traitsui 8.0.0 and pyside6 6.8.2 and 6.7.1.

Note, it seems to be an issue starting with PySide6-6.7.x, when I downgrade to 6.6.3.1 all is good.

A similar issue, possibly with the same underlying cause: the selection_color and selection_bg_color values for the TableEditor have no effect on Windows 11 / Windows Server 2025. (Tested with WS 2025, Python 3.12, PySide6 6.10.0 and PySide6 6.7.1.)

Steps to reproduce: on a recent clone of TraitsUI, and assuming that uv is installed (here I'm using uv 0.9.2):

• edit the TableEditor_demo.py to add arguments selection_color="green", selection_bg_color="red" to the TableEditor invocation
• run uv run --python 3.12 --with pyside6 .\traitsui\examples\demo\Standard_Editors\TableEditor_demo.py

Result: selected lines are the default slightly-off-white colour (see the top row in the screenshot below)
Expected result: selected lines show green text on a red background (🤮 )

On macOS, we see the expected colour changes:

@sallenEnth For the issue where the text cells are blank, I see the issue with PySide6 6.7.1, but not with PySide6 6.8.1 or later. All of PySide6 6.8.1, 6.8.3, 6.9.3 and 6.10.0 worked for me (on Windows Server 2025, which appears to behave similarly to Windows 11).

I should also mention that I did a bit of digging into this issue, and it looks as though the problem is not with colors, but that the text isn't being rendered at all. Moreover, replacing these lines:

traitsui/traitsui/qt/table_editor.py

Lines 917 to 919 in b3673a7

	QtGui.QApplication.style().drawControl(
	QtGui.QStyle.ControlElement.CE_ItemViewItem, option, painter, None
	)

with a superclass call super().paint(painter, option, index) fixed the issue for me.

@mdickinson Thank you for looking into this. When I opened the issue, I was able to reproduce it with 6.7.1 and 6.8.2. I did not keep the environment. I rebuilt with 6.8.2 but could not exactly reproduce the issue. Now the text is visible, but the color setting does not work.

Making the change in the table_editor as you suggested fix that behavior.

I also tested with PySide 6.10.0 and found that there are no more issues.
Will you open a PR to make the change you suggested?

Given that TraitsUI seems functional with the latest PySide6, I wasn't planning to - projects that need the fix can upgrade to a more recent PySide6.

I think we should keep this open - from what I see there are two independent issues: the blank cells, and the failure to pick up the correct colour. The blank cells are fixed by the PySide6 upgrade, but the bad colours are not.
