Could Desktop+ have an improved version of the locked position in VR space? Currently, the window shifts whenever the screen changes in Elite Dangerous, which is frustrating. For comparison, LIV (also at on the Steam Store), stays perfectly in place once set up.

It would be great if Desktop+ could remember its position across sessions, so I don’t have to reposition windows repeatedly.

Positions are stored relative to their origin point and should be stable across sessions as long as the tracking universe within SteamVR is also stable.
Elite is using the seated tracking universe as far as I know. Are you using the Seated Position origin for your overlays?
Seated origin might get reset by the game on transitions or user input (or the button in the dashboard). This might be what you want depending on if you want things to be static relative to in-game space rather than relative to absolute tracking space.

The default Play Area origin stays static as long as the tracking universe doesn't change in my experience. For lighthouse HMDs this is usually until room setup is redone or the base stations were moved for some reason.
Not sure about how other tracking tech behaves exactly in this regard, but within the same session it sounds a lot like a seated reset happening.

On a second thought, is this about the UI windows? Didn't cross my mind at first but if you wanted the pinned UI windows in-game they'd not stick to the seated universe right now. They're pinned to the standing universe.
If so, this might be worth making an option if there's demand for it.

The lock works, but it still will get moved around when the UI changes (from cockpit to on-foot for example.)

It's been a while.
I initially took a stab at this and then left it on a side for a bit. As far as excuses go, I had my headset stuck in RMA process for like a month... not that it matters.

Coming back to this I'm a bit confused as to how SteamVR behaves right now.
Standing universe overlays moving along when resetting seated universe and setting seated position overlays seems to do what it should at first (position is correct). Only difference being that the seated universe being updated changes the vertical zero position while it's fixed for the standing universe.

The behavior is the same in 2.12.14 on the "previous" SteamVR branch... so this isn't new.
I tested this with a seated app and the SteamVR seated reset, as well as VRChaperone::ResetZeroPose(TrackingUniverseSeated). Also check the seated_position_reset debug command which has a seated_and_standing_position_reset variant, but the results are essentially the same. If I stick some pinned UI window to an element in the VR app and then reset my seated position, it moves along the VR space (with vertical differences if my head's y-position is different).
Which would be expected behavior for seated universe origin... not so much expected behavior for what I described as standing absolute positioned overlays before.

I'm a bit at a loss right now, since that would mean this wasn't an issue to begin with... but that doesn't seem right either.
If the game offsets the view with its own centering without just telling SteamVR to do so then it'd be outside of what Desktop+ can detect.
