Improvements to downloads

Hello!
It'd be really useful, if there was a more clear way to track how the download is proceeding.

1. Current download speed;
2. Current download progress; (i.e. 120KB/360KB)
3. Current download queue;

And, since currently the behaviour of downloads is the same with the original Tempo, it'd be advantageous if the app didn't attempt to redownload the stuff that's already stored locally.

It seems like it is not checking the downloaded state or file structure. That will be a separate issue when I get to this part.

Hello again! Was not expecting such a fast reply.

I am curious what you how this would look, ui wise, where would this info be?

At the very least, since currently the only place where anything regarding downloads is the notifications:

1. Making the "endless loading bar" to be a "simple loading bar", like any other android download works.
2. Same with the current progress, it's already good enough in the usual "downloading notification"
3. Separate notifications for each and every song completed downloading - are unnecessary. Showing only the "5 out of 40 complete" and, maybe, the name of the one currently loading, will be enough.
4. I don't recall if the default download notification has a speed indicator, but if it does - it could be done the same way.

so generally, I agree with your points, the question, is where should this be, where in the flow, on the app would you want to see this? the design part is what I want to understand first since the backend part will have to do what it will have to do but how we present it is what i feel is the challenge.

IMO, if currently everything to do with downloading is in the notifications - it can safely stay there. No need for additional UI elements in the app itself.

So for the first one - is the difference between "determinate" and "indeterminate" type. The original Tempo app had the former, but the Tempus now has the latter. The latter only indicates that the process is not completely "frozen", but even that is not a guarantee.

Second one, the "current progress" - is this. It also helps tracking if the transcoding is actually working. Original Tempo was really confusing in that regard. Tempus seems to be more clear on that.
