Holy hell,
After some reaching out on lemmy and reddit, another dev finally helped me crack the android auto dev issue, and I can finally get a local dev copy working>

In the end, it was the fact that I was trying to use the desktop head unit with my emulator, it, in fact, had to be done with my physical device.

I've redesigned the Android Auto interface to make it much simpler and easier to use. It's multilingual, using string files. If you're interested, I can provide the two modified files (AutomotiveRepository.java and MediaBrowserTree.kt) as well as the icon XML files.

PS: I'm new to GitHub and not yet familiar with the interface.

Hi, this is definitely interesting but I'm curious why the shape is square. If you want to open a PR i can give a look on the local set up. I don't have an physical android auto unit.

You can configure (a little) the DHU display using an .ini file.
There are a few examples in \config.

.\desktop-head-unit.exe -c config\config.ini

The square display looks like what I have in my car.
