adding multiple entries

What is the best way to handle multiple entries like:
attenuator_1, attenuator_2 etc.

the current implementation seem to allow only multiple entries only for data (using root=exchange_1 etc.)

You can use the 'entry_name' to get the structure you want.

For example:

f.add_entry(
    DataExchangeEntry.attenuator(
        entry_name="attenuator_1", 
        thickness={'value': 1e-3, 'units': 'm', 'dataset_opts':  {'dtype': 'd'}},
        type={'value': 'Al'}
    )
)

which will produce an entry with HDF structure '/measurement/instrument/attenuator_1'. The 'root' tag allows you to arbitrarily change the '/measurement/instrument' part. So the following:

f.add_entry(
    DataExchangeEntry.attenuator(
        root='/measurement/instrument/attenuators/',
        entry_name="attenuator_1", 
        thickness={'value': 1e-3, 'units': 'm', 'dataset_opts':  {'dtype': 'd'}},
        type={'value': 'Al'}
    )
)

would put attenuator_1 in a group called 'attenuators' for example.
