Make the user aware that their alternative source data is downloading

Context

When observing user testing we realised it is not clear that their alternative source data is downloading. The user did not click the button again, however it was a small dataset which still took some time.

Work required

We need to think about how we can make it clear to the user that the action from clicking the button is in progress. This could be done in many ways such as disabling the button and preventing double clicking as outlined here and/or introducing some content.

In #1145 we have worked to iterate content to reduce the likelihood that users will understand that their data is downloading and prevented double clicking on the button. However a visual confirmation may be beneficial.

We have looked in to gov pages and arms length bodies to find patterns and we found a Historic England Example

• A spinner appears in the component
• There is also a confirmation when a download is complete

If we can look at building a component like this which remains accessible this would be a great iteration and pattern that can be shared.
