datumctl not approachable for a naïve user. #54

@ecv

Description

@ecv

I am an infrastructure engineer of long experience. To me, datumctl feels weird and unapproachble.

Here's a log of my attempt to use it. Summary of issues:

  • running without a login produces a stack trace bomb; the user should never, ever see one of these
  • i am told to 'login' but 'login' is not a functional verb, produces same error message
  • '--help' is a forty-year-old GNU standard, doesn't work, must work
  • 'help' is the oft-seen equivalent, and also does not work

These are usability-blocking errors, as the user cannot discover a path forward.
