Shields and offhand slot are added in 1.9. Dinnerbone says, "The way I want dual wielding to work is that it uses the right click action of your off-hand item if your main-hand doesn't have its own.".
It's true that it became more convenient with a stack of torch in offhand, and a pickaxe in mainhand. But the blocking function of swords are gone, replacing by shields.
It feels even more ironic that one can't disable shield using sword. Axes now have become a popular choice, they break wooden things faster, they can disable shield, they attack heavly...
It's time for swords to revenge, at least make it competitive again.
With a sword(or sword-tagged item) in mainhand, and nothing in offhand, player can hold right click to perform a charge attack.
It deals 2/3(1.67x) more damage. Two charge attacks of iron sword deals 20 damage, one critical charge attack of netherite sword deals 20 damage. Damage multiplier configurable.
Charging makes player move slower(3.320 block/s), when player is sprinting, the speed should only be a bit slower than walking(4.317*4.317/5.612). It feels hilarious seeing a guy sprinting towards you whilst charging the sword, but it also feels awkward moving that slow. Movement speed configurable.
Charge attacks may disable shield. Base chance is 75%, each level of sharpness increses it by 5% (so a sharpness V sword can always break shields).
Charging takes 2/3(1.67x, 1.0417s) more time than normal attack, and has a cooldown(like normal attacks) between attacks. Charge time multuplier configurable.
Canceling charge attack only performs a normal attack.
