Conducted in the spirit of statistical mechanics (essentially a mean-field approximation). Retrospectively this module is indeed heavily rooted in the spirit that "More is different" (PW Anderson). For example,

In a way, they are essentially applying statMech to understand the bulk property of the system in a way that avoids simple aggregation, but concrete example is yet required to validate the strength of this paradigm.
