Change .dev TLD to .test

Due to this commit in Chrome 63 the .dev TLD is forced to use HTTPS. In most cases this means your local websites are not reachable anymore.

I would recommend to switch either to the reserved .test TLD or to .localhost. Further information about the commit mentioned above can be found here.

Thanks for this. Safari has the same issue as of Version 11.0.2 (13604.4.7.1.3)
The official tutorial has been updated to use .local but I think that opens up new issues

It's because Google own .dev as a TLD & have started letting it loose on DNS servers. All my .dev sites broke mid 2017. Using .local is unsafe as it conflicts with Multicast/Bonjour. There are a set of TLDs reserved for development, & there's a good article about it all here. I now use .localhost which, being reserved for local use, is safe.

I currently use .test. Only irritating thing about it is that I have to type in http:// every time I want to open it or safari does a google search

I get the same, & I think it was so in Safari for .dev even before that broke for me. That's why I use a local home page, soon to be based on yours, & have the local home page as a pinned tab. I also use target="_blank" for links out of my local home page.
