So the reason for the error is explained in this StackOverflow answer. The code that's causing the issue was quite hard to track down:

The code that actually sets the error message is here in nuntium/models.py. That gets called from here when there's an error caught. Tracing it through it appears that this is the method which is raising the error, which in turn calls Person.update_from_api_results in popit-django.

I think the line causing the error is this one, which assumes that a popit_url will only be used on a single write-it instance.

So we need to either add some validation to WriteIt to ensure that a datasource url can only be used by a single instance or we need to fix popit-django and/or remove the dependency on that library (especially since popit will be going away soon).

@equivalentideas do you have multiple WriteIt instances using the same datasource url? I think the simple workaround might be to remove the datasource from one of the WriteIt instances and they re-add it with a different url if possible.

We do indeed. We have a few test instances set up. I can set them to use a fork of the datasource so that's no problem.

We have a test site on our main user that uses the same data sources as the production site. I also have my own user that has a test site using the same data sources.

@chrismytton It's not clear to me how you remove a datasource?

Here's steps I've just gone through:

• I've switched datasources from all the test sites to update “never”.
• Fetched new data from the data source in use we want working.
• No change to the error message. I'm a bit suspicious of the status messages since it says next to it “last updated April 7, 2016, 12:20 a.m” even after I update it.
• It hasn't imported new people.
• Deleted our test site on the main user (the one with the production site)
• No change in status or recipients
• Deleted the test site on my other user
• Try fetching new data from on our production site again and ... we now seem to be back in action 🎆 . New recipients are being loaded, but no change to the status message for the data source.

@chrismytton it looks like this is now stopping us adding recipients, are you able to help remove the duplicate datasource as a workaround?

The problematic datasource is https://raw.githubusercontent.com/openaustralia/australian_local_councillors_popolo/master/nsw_local_councillor_popolo.json

We want that running on http://planningalerts.writeit.ciudadanointeligente.org/

We're not really fussed about any other instances so the datasource can most likely be removed from other instances.
