Ambilight+Hue on Philips 58PUS7805 TV does not detect Bifrost #149

Hi there 👋,

First of all, thanks for creating and maintaining Bifrost.

I’ve been trying to get my Philips 58PUS7805 TV to work with Ambilight+Hue using Bifrost, but unfortunately, the TV doesn’t seem to detect the bridge.

Here’s what I found while investigating:

  • The TV does not send any SSDP/M-SEARCH requests on the local network, so local discovery doesn’t work.
  • It only reaches out to discovery.meethue.com via HTTPS.
  • I even set up a local HTTPS proxy for discovery.meethue.com that correctly exposes the Bifrost bridge information (ID, internal IP, and port) but the TV still ignores it.

Technical Details

  • TV model: Philips 58PUS7805
  • TV firmware version: mt5887:TPM206E_201.003.248.001
  • Bifrost version: dev-2025-05-20 (bifrost-hassio)
  • Tested with: Hue app, Hue Essentials → works perfectly for controlling lights
  • Attempts made:
    • Local SSDP discovery → TV does not send M-SEARCH
    • HTTPS proxy simulating discovery.meethue.com → correctly returns Bifrost bridge info including ID, internal IP, and port, but TV still ignores it

Context and question

My goal is to completely remove the Hue Bridge from my setup, as this is the only functionality that currently forces me to maintain a second Zigbee network for a few lamps in my living room.

Does anyone have an idea why the TV doesn’t detect Bifrost, even though the bridge info is correctly exposed?
