<p>Socio-Emotional Learning (SEL) programs aim at developing social and emotional competencies in children with the goal of improving their well-being, decreasing violence between children and between adults and children and improving academic outcomes. Most SEL programs aim at teaching the following problem-solving algorithm:</p>
<ul>
<li>Identifying and labelling emotions</li>
<li>Identifying the problems behind negative emotions</li>
<li>Figuring out possible responses to the problem</li>
<li>Figuring out the consequences of each possible response</li>
<li>Choosing and implementing the most adequate response</li>
</ul>
<p>The first (to our knowledge) meta-analysis of the impact of SEL programs can be found <a href="https://doi.org/10.1111/j.1467-8624.2010.01564.x">here</a>. A more recent meta-analysis focusing on group-based SEL programs for parents can be found <a href="http://www.cochrane.org/CD008225/BEHAV_group-parenting-programmes-for-improving-behavioural-problems-in-children-aged-3-to-12-years">here</a>.</p>
