visualizing sector data by country using 'A charts' overlays #193

Description

@cccs-ip

This is a help request for a loose concept. Your work will help us all to assess the viability (and aesthetics) of this idea.

CCCS currently tracks information about our associate's project experience by themes and sectors, and these are linked to different countries of operation.

To demonstrate our relative capacity across sectors within a specific country, it would be cool if we could produce a map that overlays 'A charts' (shown here). The idea of 'A charts' is proposed as a possible means of demonstrating different degrees of intensity within a group, so that, for instance, proportion of sector representation is associated to the 'pie' proportions, and the 'depth' proportion shows iterations within country.

For a world map, the effect my be similar to what is shown here (but we'd have scaled A charts rather than red circles). A similar concept (albeit using only pie charts) can be seen in one of the rotating 'showcase' images here.

I'd like to begin this project simply... so I'd like to start trying to show the distributions of our work in each country according to the eight IFC Performance Standards, shown here. [NOTE: You must be logged in to see this list.]
