analog to #18 we can try to come up with something for the listings package (at least strings and keywords can be easily matched with listings afaik). The setup might be more complex though as I think this is not possible via PassOptionsToPackage. So if we want to use lstsetup listings needs to be loaded before catppuccinpalette (inconsistent with hyperref, maybe we can also use hypersetup if hyperref is already loaded 🤔)

I think I alreay have some settings for lstlistings I used for a document (will post it later)

Hmm, yeah I agree that this setup will probably be more complicated. I'll see if I can find some time this weekend to play around with some ideas too.

Well probably not too much cleaner as listings setup is still required (just not the colors anymore)

btw if you have other packages you think would be useful to support feel free to open issues as well (note that I already have something sketched for beamer but that should be an extra package to be able to load it properly as beamercolortheme)

In a previous document, I used

keywordstyle=\color{CtpMauve},
backgroundcolor=\color{CtpBase},

But compared to all the highlighting you (I think it was you) have done in the examples, this is not much. Though, I'm not sure we can do much more as specific language styles might use different keyword "groups" for different things.

Hmm. I wonder if we can make a few language definitions for the most common keyword groups.

I was looking for another package or premade list of definitions, and this was this closest I could find, but it only covers a few languages. Maybe there's a demand for an all-inclusive list of listings language definitions haha

Hm I'm not sure about this. Yes it would be nice to have full fledged highlighting in catppuccin theme. But that probably is not possible with listings (maybe with minted? -- never used it though, since listings usually is enough for me).

The issue is that listings only has quite limited capabilities regarding matching text as far as I know (you mostly can exact match strings and delimiters for literal strings and comments). As far as I know, it does not parse the code like e.g. treesitter would. Also looking at the language definitions, I see most languages define all keywords in one keyword-group so they cannot be highlighted individually.

Tbh initially I also only thought of the highlighting I posed above and I'm afraid we can't much more (with the listings package). And tbh I'm also not sure if it's worth going too deep into enhanced language definitions for listings as listings probably never will be able to "understand" that that string is actually a function call or a method defined on that class.

Yea well, really nice syntax highlighting in latex probably is still an unsolved problem (not sure what minted can do though). Listings is nice and is already a good start, but it's not too powerful (well usually the code snippets aren't too long in documents so probably usually basic highlighting already helps/suffices).

Or maybe I'm missing this: What do you mean with few language definitions for the most common keyword groups? Do you mean writing language definitions for specific languages?
