getting a PID of last process started

I'm trying to write something that resembles this in Justfile - any hint? In essence, capture the program's PID then eventually kill it.

test:
	my_server & 
	SERVER_PID=$!
	run_server_tests || kill $SERVER_PID

I think you'll need a shebang recipe for this:

test:
  #!/usr/bin/env bash
  set -euxo pipefail
  my_server & 
  SERVER_PID=$!
  run_server_tests || kill $SERVER_PID
