Description
After assigning trophic modes and guilds to my ITS sequencing data, I have noticed that some of the assignments for Trophic Mode list multiple trophic modes, for example "Pathotroph-Saprotroph-Sybiotroph," which I understand is either due to 1) some fungi using different modes of getting nutrition over their lifetime and/or 2) uncertainties in assignment based on available taxonomic information (for example, not all species in a genus use the same trophic mode, and if you don't have species information or the species you have is not in the FUNGuild database, the code relies on the genus to assign trophic information). That makes sense to me. However, there are a few taxa that have trophic modes like "Saprotroph-Pathotroph-Saprotroph" (genera Exidiopsis and Hericium) or "Pathotroph-Pathotroph-Saprotroph" (genus Rhizophydium), which doesn't make sense to me. Why aren't they labeled as "Pathotroph-Saprotroph"?
Any explanation about this would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance!
