Hello,

Suggestions :

  • (maybe for another coder?) create a browser addon (for Google Chrome,...) ala WiPer : it would add on the default Wikipedia search engine, a "fix" button for each result that the user could click on when he/she is sure that the correction should be made !
  • or add a way so the user could add specific keywords (with results from Wikipedia main search box) into Wiper ?

I ask this because it is difficult for Wikipedia already existing automatic and semi-automatic typo correcting systems to remove certain spellings errors into Wikipedia https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Typo_Team#Methods_for_searching_and_correcting_typos. It happens apparently when a correction has too many false positive (For instance, repetition keywords like "and and" etc.. or misspellings such as : https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Typo_Team/moss#Likely_new_English_compounds_by_frequency_(a-m) ). So a human check might be better at excluding some suggestions.

Also, If current WiPer's suggestions are just from random Wikipedia articles (??), it could be nice to have more dedicated links (from Wikipedia search results) to find specific common errors. ;)

More explanations why : I did a little experiment today:

I have tried to modify fr-wiki with Wiper (contrary to what I do in my computer, on mobile I have much more clicked the "Do not fix" button): I did approx. 20 "fix" on fr-wiki in 30 minutes.

(I was inspired by this user who did more than half a million edits over the last years https://fr.wikiscan.org/utilisateur/Pautard) I have tried (on my computer) to modify fr-wiki with the default Wikipedia's search box with only one suggestion "de de" (in fact " [de de " -"de dé"] in wikipedia searches corrected as "de"). Even I think I had to do more clicks, I did approx. 20 corrections on fr-wiki in only 6 minutes.
I have heavily used CTRL+F and CTRL+W in Google Chrome. The url (I have started a few days ago) is : https://fr.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Sp%C3%A9cial:Recherche&limit=100&offset=2100&profile=default&sort=last_edit_desc&search=%22+de+de+%22+-%22de+d%C3%A9%22&advancedSearch-current={}&ns0=1)
The videos of the edits (no need to watch the 6 minutes in full imho) is here : https://streamable.com/ky7tq8

Note: Wikipedia main search results are not perfect (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Help:Searching#Search_string_syntax) but I have found that it is really easy to skip with my eyes, in the list of results, false positives. ;) Sometimes I needed to check anyway individual pages as for instance "de De" was not correctly displayed in the search results (no uppercase "de de = de De"). Other times, a code extract prevented me from finding the double easily (thanks to the Languagetool's addon https://languagetoolplus.com/#firefox_chrome). ;)

I hope this helps ;)
ps: The new highlight color changes are really great with Wiper. ;)
pps: edited !
