How to use Blåmba on non-German carriers?

My carrier is Czech T-Mobile (230/01) but my REG message to +49 252622 was rejected. I suppose you understandably don't want to pay roaming fees, the service must be expensive to run as-is. Do I need to go to Germany or get a German SIM card? I have several compatible Nokias, primarily 3100 and 3410, the latter of which does not do GPRS but CSD should still work on T-Mobile CZ (its price is still listed in the M2M tariff). I don't have an SDR to run my own Blåmba server, unfortunately, though I might look into modems/phone hacks to send SMS content with AT commands.

Blamba is only being run at CCC events (which have their own private GSM network) for now.
If you have a good way of sending SMS in Czechia (with flatrate billing!), you could provide a Kannel endpoint to Blamba and host a Czech "entry node" yourself.

Oh well, I misinterpreted this on the FAQ page:

Most german phone providers and the CCC event network are allowed. [...] If you're using a different carrier/provider, please write us a message [...]

I was assuming the node was up on a public German carrier all the time, as there is no mention of it being offline on the website, it stills encourages texting "REG ..." even though there is nothing to receive it. I don't have a DIY-friendly modem or SDR right now. Maybe I could hack one of the phones I own into a modem with exposed AT commands but still no way to make my own BTS in case that's necessary.

I'm glad I could be useful in increasing the shark population to acceptable numbers. My attempts at hacking are hit-and-miss but I'm proud of my pixel art skills. Too bad the pixel aspect ratio can be 1:1 or 7:8 so "BLÅHAJ!" might get squashed on color screens and "eepy" might get italicized on monochrome ones. (You can open Inspector in browser and add width: 189; to the .img-nearest CSS class to simulate it.)

Anyway, I managed to make a Nokia 3410 and 3100 detect a short ringtone from another phone via a single //SCKL message (the one on Wikipedia's SCKL page) but it does not play any sound. Only the 3100 detected an incoming logo in 3 messages but it appears blank and cannot be saved; sending it as a screensaver gets blocked by the provider and a picture message (-m in Ringtonetools) fails. CSD seems to be on M2M business tariffs only and none of the GPRS configs I found work on my 3100 so I was unable to access the new WAP page. I didn't try any of the more modern models I have (ExpressMusic, C5, 225...), they have USB anyway.

I hope I'll be attending some CCC event so I can put the logos, Nature Park or Bounce on my 3100. I can use BouncEdit to hack Blåhaj into the empty space of level 3. (Half water/half air blocks are not available, constraining the poses that can be drawn, and there is no block darker than the red one.)

By the way, two of the three 3410s I own had Munkiki (the first J2ME 3D game, until recently presumed lost) when I got them. What are the chances?

Hi, are you still taking logo submissions? Turns out drawing logos in pixel art is great calming fun! Some work better in the 7:8 pixel aspect ratio (green) and others in 1:1 (white) but they are usually alright in both. I'm not uploading 73 logos manually because that would be spam. I'll let you pick and choose those worth including in Blåmba. People can still find the logos here and use the Manual SMS function to upload them, possibly with their own modifications.

I'm releasing sw_krita-kiki.gif under CC-BY-SA because that took several hours of creative decisions, not just the zen pixel placing based on an existing template like the rest, which are again CC0.

Note sw_wikipedia.gif, which I encourage for use on Wikipedia (take a nice picture of some of your phones with the logo, maybe?).

I'm taking suggestions for other logos/artwork I should do because I think I've covered all major Linux distros and several other things that come to mind. It's very likely I'll be able to adapt just about any simple logo (like a future CCC event logo?) pretty well but I can't promise I'll get around to you.
