Can't access chart from a dblclick event on a legend item #175

I want to implement behavior similar to plotly's line chart where double-clicking a legend entry isolates that line.
I thought this would be possible with custom-events but it doesn't seem like the chart is passed along with the event at all? Or at least I can't find it when I inspect either this or the event passed to the event method.
What gives? How can you interact with the chart when it's not passed in the event? Highchart's own LegendItemClickCallbackFunctiondoes this. Have I misunderstood something?
