Offline version of dictionaries

Hello,

First, thank you for having made this high quality program that really works well.
I was thinking it would be convenient to have a standalone extension or at least a link to the dictionaries and how to download them. The reason is because when re-installing windows, sometimes there is no internet, It's always convenient to have working offline extensions that work. I found where the dictionary is located, it's approximately 500Mb, however there are additional files and it seems complicated to install it offline.

My request proposal is that it would be very nice to add a streamlined way of downloading the dictionaries and adding them to the extension so we could have the dictionaries stored on a local disk.

The program you made is extremely useful and can be perfect by not relying on the internet to be installed everytime, especially when it works entirely offline. Would it be technically possible to simplify the installation for the users by allowing them to download manually the dictionaries and install them manually ?

Or is there a way with firefox profiles ? I know some files for the extension are there. If I install a same version of Firefox on a new windows installation and copy the Firefox profile containing the extension to the new firefox of identical version, would it be working ?

Thanks for filing this. I'm afraid I don't think I've quite understood the request. From what I can gather, the main need is to be able to install the extension when re-installing Windows without Internet access? Is that correct? If so, I wonder how do you install Firefox or look up Japanese content without Internet access?

For what it's worth, the extension should already work without Internet access. It comes bundled with a snapshot of the dictionary. This snapshot may be a month or two old, only has English glosses, and has no kanji entries or names but should still work for looking up words.

You can probably download the xpi file from https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/10ten-ja-reader/versions/ and use that to install offline. For example, I think the current version is https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/downloads/file/4638259/10ten_ja_reader-1.26.1.xpi

When you are next online it will download the latest data files and once that is complete, use them. After that it will download just the changes twice a week. Often that are only a dozen or so changes so the updates are very small.

I'm not familiar enough with Firefox's profiles to know if there is another means of backing up the state of an extension, I'm afraid.

Long-term I expect we will change database format to something that is more amenable to exporting and importing but that is a long way off.
