Feature request: Replace VariO Ontology with Alternative

The VariO Ontology used in the entity view is currently orphaned and not available in OLS anymore. This leads to broken links and hampers the utility of the platform for users seeking ontology-based information. A replacement ontology needs to be identified and integrated into the system to ensure continued functionality and accuracy.

Proposed Solution

1. Identify an Alternative Ontology:

   • Potential alternatives include:
     • Sequence Ontology (SO)

2. Update Database and Links:

   • Replace the vario_id and vario_name in the database with the equivalent fields from the new ontology.
   • Update the links in the entity view to point to the new ontology.

3. Update Configuration:

   • Store the base links for the new ontology in a configuration file for easy updates and maintenance.

4. Migration Plan:

   • Develop a script to migrate existing data to the new ontology.
   • Ensure that all historical data remains accessible and correctly linked.
