Benchmarks generate OutOfMemoryError

Some benchmarks (currently drivers with plugins) generate a java.lang.OutOfMemoryError: GC overhead limit exceeded error. We should investigate the cause and how to solve the problem, since it seems to leave the benchmark in a suspended state, and as a result it's not possible to deploy or run new benchmarks on the Faban harness.
