creation of weapons (sword specifically) v3 and v4 same?

when creating a sword, v3 and v4 appear to both be wtype with choices of flaming, vorpal, sharp,etc. but v3 will not show if you choose one of those. So what is V3??

v3 is damage type... options seem to include
hit, pound, slice, crush, stab, grep, slash, bite, whip, pierce (might permit backstab), claw, suction
