🌐 NetPractice – Intro to Networking at 42

“Understand networks by building and breaking them.”

📚 Project Overview

NetPractice is a foundational networking project at 42 School, completed on 05 October 2024, designed to teach the basics of computer networking. Through a series of interactive exercises, students learn how IP addressing, subnetting, and routing logic work by solving practical network configuration problems.

🎯 Project Goals

  • Understand how IP addresses and subnet masks function
  • Learn to calculate and apply network and broadcast addresses
  • Configure routing between multiple subnets
  • Analyze how machines communicate across networks

🛠️ Key Concepts Practiced

  • IP addressing (IPv4)
  • Subnetting and CIDR notation
  • Static routing
  • Network planning and diagnostics
  • Gateway and interface logic

📎 Tools

  • 🧠 42 Intranet Network Simulation Tool
  • ✍️ Paper & pen for subnetting calculations
  • 🧰 Optional: IP calculators or visual subnetting tools for verification

📘 What I Learned

  • How to calculate and assign subnet addresses
  • Understanding how routing works between machines
  • How misconfiguration can break communication
  • The importance of gateways in reaching external networks
