Please provide any LICENSE information on the project.

I was wondering the same thing, but I saw the package.json has MIT set.
I wonder if this is sufficient to apply the license, or if the LICENSE file is definitely needed?

At least that answers my initial question. I would suggest having LICENSE file in-place as it is common practice.
