HP Reverb G2 Controller Mapping for No Man's Sky

Using an HP Reverb G2 in No Man's Sky, the joystick movement is not working.  All other buttons work, including clicking the joystick on the right hand to use the scanner.  Sprint / Move / Turn / Strafe which are all controlled from the joystick do not work.  I have scoured the web for hours trying to find a fix but have found no clues on how to fix this.
