Breaking into OSS in Cocoa

• Any tips for contributing to open-source?
• If the project is fleshed out, do you have to provide a documented solution first before doing a pull-request?
• I also noticed certain apps in the App Store that are open-sourced in GitHub-- are these contributors credited in the product? How does that work?
• Any recommendations for beginner-friendly open-source projects?

• How can I make sure my contribution will be worth my time? ( e.g. abandoned projects, or one with weird rules )
