Scalar not working well throughout Feb and March

Hi guys,

My class has been building a collaborative website this semester. We were good through late February. Since then, we've been experiencing occasional PHP errors and login errors. When we can log in, we only can load the dashboard. Essentially, my hot take is that Scalar is really struggling to render relationships and it is taking literal hours to load anything (if anything loads at all). We are experiencing this with many of the sample Scalar webpages as well. My TA sent an email to an address that was not acknowledged, so we thought we would try here.

Can you please help?

Hi @jlinker81,

Very sorry you've run into this problem. The Scalar server at USC got hit with an attack of some kind a couple few ago and has been having major troubles ever since. We bring the server back online and it goes offline again after a couple hours.

We're zeroing in on the problem and hoping for a resolution soon.

I'm also looking for any updates and if there is a timeline for having access to Scalar again? We are using Scalar on our Data Fluencies project at the Digital Democracies Institute.

Hi Craig and Erik,

I'm so sorry to hear about the attack. Is there any possibility of retrieving a JSON or XML file of a particular book that one could upload to another instance of Scalar? I thought to download backups of some books, but not others.

Not at present @tamaracan , we'll need to get the server back in proper working order first. No data has been lost, however, and we don't currently believe the issues are related to an attack. While the remediation process has gone slower than expected, things have been moving forward, and we hope to have more news soon.
