The phone must be unlocked to connect via usb?

Hi, I previously used Headunit Reloaded via USB, and it worked just by plugging in the cable. However, with the Headunit-Revived app, the phone must be unlocked; otherwise, it won't connect.

I am using a Chinese head unit running Android 6 API 23, fake version, sold as Android 9 :( and a Pixel 10 Pro XL.

Is this an issue with Headunit-Revived v2.0.1, or has something changed with Android Auto in the meantime? I have v16.3.660834 installed and the option "Start Android Auto while locked" is enabled on smartphone.
