Functionality to create vis dump files with a custom set of variables

Hello,
I would like to request a functionality to specify a custom set of variables in vis dump files. In particular, I am envisioning a use-case where I can do more frequent dumps of a variable of interest (e.g., surface-total_evapotranspiration). This would be separate from the regular vis dump which consists of all the default variables.
