Forklift has updated since it was last deployed to the GIS hosting machine.

Tasks

- [ ] Update forklift to latest version

• remove forklift from test server
• delete reference map service
• Check if we can remove certain crates based on the improvements in Toggle reference layer visibility #9

Improvements

• Determine if more reference layers should become hosted feature services in a DNR org

I've been looking at layers in the reference layers map service that could be replaced by AGOL or other services and thus removed from the forklift pallet.

The following SGID layers have already been replaced with their associated AGOL services in the app and can be removed from the service and forklift:

• BLMDistricts
• LandOwnership
• ZoomLocations (replaced by masquerade service)
• Counties (I can't find a place that this is used in the app, I've searched for "Counties" and "mapserver/13" with no luck, I vote to remove it)
• StreamsNHDHighRes
• Watersheds_Area

UWRI Regions

This reference layer comes from UDNR.DWR.Regions feature class. It appears to me that it could be replaced by this DWR AGOL service. The only possible issue is that the values for the DWR_REGION field differ slightly between the UDNR version and the AGOL version:

This field is used to label the features on the map and also is the field that the search component is wired to.

Sage Grouse Areas

This reference layer comes from UDNR.DWR.SageGrouse_SGMA_outlines and appears to have an exact match with this DNR ArcGIS Server Service.

Average Annual Precipitation

This appears to the the NRCS average annual precipitation from 1981 to 2010 dataset. I couldn't find a equivalent service. I asked #data in slack to see if anyone knows. Perhaps DWR/DNR could be asked to publish this service? Or maybe this is something that should be in SGID?

Range Trend Sites

I found this service in the DNR AGOL org. However, it's broken due to some auth issue. I've asked Aaron Heyman about it.

Forklift

If we are able to find viable replacement services for these last two services, we would be able to totally remove forklift from the WRI solution. This would be a significant simplfication and reduction of technical debt.

@steveoh Does the backend api hit any of these reference layers that we would need to update?

Aaron Heyman published a public service for range trends this morning when I asked him about it.

I've tested it in the app and it seems to work great. That means that the only layer left in forklift is precipitation.

Current production does use those datasets as part of the SOE for extracting project and feature calculations.

We can certainly make these changes in the cloud replacement as long as we replace the SOE dependency.

Most of the changes seem very safe. Any with a schema/data inconsistency, I suggest sharing with Chris and he can run them by Alison prior to our next meeting.

My recollection is that the UDWR Region data is not copied into the WRI database and thus does not require a migration. Perhaps @steveoh or @chriswnek can help verify.
