Cant't boot 10.15 Catalina

Hi there ;-) I'm adding another issue with booting image of macOS ... Catalina in my case. Yes I need to run VM with Intel MacOS on Apple Silicion.

Here are details

• host: macOS Sonoma @ macbookPro M1
• steps to boot Catalina seems to be easy
  • download UTM
  • download macOS 10.15 (config only).utm from this REPO
  • edit VM and attach MacOS Catalina.ISO to CD-ROM drive
    • optionally or attach BaseSystem.dmg to CD-ROM drive
  • start VM
    • no luck, boot menu appear ...
    
  • restart does not help, I expected to see another boot menu option, something like "MacOS Catalina installer" as it works on my hackintosh

I tried several ISO images downloaded from https://archive.org/ None of them helped. Strange thing is that BaseSystem.dmg work the same way - no boot.

Anyone can help me pls ?

Have you tried following my instructions, including running the linked script to download and build an installer?Also, once you do get a bootable iso, you’ll quickly find that you don’t actually want to use Catalina on that hardware, just as a warning.  It can install and boot and even run software, but not fast enough to be usable for anything beyond documentation and analysis.-Em On Jan 26, 2025, at 11:09 AM, bikeridercz ***@***.***> wrote: Hi there ;-) I'm adding another issue with booting image of macOS ... Linked script ... you mean createinstalliso ? ... yes I tried but no luck. I tried BaseSystem.dmg too, no luck. On my opinion the problem is that opencore does not see installation media and thus installer does not start ... simply it is not mounted and visible to opencore. I made several hackintoshes in the past so I'm little aware how the boot process should work. Thanks for help !!! ;-)

btw. event the Catalina works bat on my HW, it it worth to install it - i need to check software compatibility on Catalina.

Odd; I’ve validated both the basesystem.dmg and createinstalliso approaches using that configuration, and they both work for me on an M1 MacBook Pro; OpenCore picks up both as bootable media.  I have had issues in the past with attaching them via USB 1; using ATA-style CD drive should work as long as it is addressable.-Em On Jan 27, 2025, at 11:53 PM, bikeridercz ***@***.***> wrote: Linked script ... you mean createinstalliso ? ... yes I tried but no luck. I have the same problem as bikeridercz, trying with macOS Mojave on M3, following the steps outlined in this issue. I've messed with rEFInd before, but OpenCore is new territory for me.

If the image is a proper iso image, OpenCore should detect it without having to fiddle with it.

I did notice "edit VM and attach MacOS Catalina.ISO to CD-ROM drive" in the OP's steps. Are you editing the config, or are you just selecting CD/DVD and adding the iso from the open dialog? The second is what I'm doing with no problems.

I have a similar setup, macOS Tahoe Beta on M1 Pro, and I was able to boot Catalina by adding BaseSystem.dmg as an USB drive, not CD/DVD. It is pretty slow, but the installation process is working for now.
