hey this looks like a very good project, and I'd like to add some features, like reporting time spent to some internal tool we use.

Do you think just another tool consuming from ~/.timed file is a good idea?

I am not actively using timed at the moment, but if you want to fork and add some features, please feel free! Of course, functionality like reporting to an internal tool is not something I would consider merging into the upstream, however. Consuming from ~/.timed as you suggest sounds like a better idea for that.
