each virtual workspace would hold its own window "tape" that could be scrolled like Niri.

this might require a large refactor of the layout system as right now it is fully state agnostic but will require some piping of data (scrolling) to function. Also, we will have to make decisions on whether gestures to switch workspaces can be enabled whilst a scrolling layout is chosen.

Are we trying to somewhat port Niri both are written in Rust, granted macOS restrictions/limits? If so should we modify or create a new tree to colums/tiles (Excel type simialrity that Niri uses) for better parity as in my opinion it woudl allow us better performance and to port advanced features and behaviours of Niri much easier, we could also add some animation effects that are not locked or behidn private APIs?

@BarutSRB, maybe try the PR for this: #91. It fits in well with the rest of Rift (workspaces and cli use for example).

You developed HyprSpace (your fork of Aerospace) which has a limited scrolling mode, so I'd be interested in any comparisons or tips.

@tshort I used your base which helped a lot, but not sure if you wanted to go thsi direction or keep it simple, however I changed the model to column and field based to be like Niri and not just a simple horizontal scroll layout like HyprSpace or other macOS Niri implementations, which gives a good base and I've added aniamtions, granetd there is still much work to do, but so far what I tested and works is smooth animations and adding/removign from column the windows. 146

Scrolling layout is awesome feature, but think Niri compatibility layer for IPC, KDL config are unnecessary features for Rift
Add only needed function to IPC, other Niri compatibility layer can be realized via external integration.
