Permit authentication in clients, for staff to use apps

All large events publish maps and other information that is restricted to staff-use-only. Our design should permit this possibility. For example, DEF CON staff should be able to access staff-only maps that indicate where confidential facilities are, what processes are for escalation, internal interdepartmental status docs, the "goon manual", etc. That would require authentication of some sort, while attendees must not ever be prompted for authentication.
