bit.ly preferred service not functioning

Suddenly, bit.ly preferred service is not functioning. Getting message as follows: Service unavaiable, or your computer isn’t connected to the Internet. It is connected and the other preferred choices such as TinyURL and goo.gl work okay. Started working accessing www.smh.com.au but same issue for other sites. Can you assist with suggestions please?
