Feature Request: Public API

I'd love to see a public API that would allow other extensions to add custom fields to tbl_author_roles_sections and request access states of a given author.

example:

Imagine an entry-versioning extension that keeps track of all changes you made on an entry. It could create a custom field like allow restore version.

What do you think?
