[Help]: Can this (be made to) run on a Fire TV stick?

What is happening?

Forgive me if this is a stupid question but can this run or be made to work on a Firestick? I was about to try it for myself but then realised that I have no Play Store on my 3 x firesticks and no Android TV to download it with in order to transfer over. Google Play on my phone will also not let me download the apk.

Anyway, you'll probably tell me that it's not suitable anyway or feasible to port over (I've never used Android TV myself so have no idea how different it is to Android on phones and tablets) but I thought I'd ask anyway just in case.

Hey,
The app is developed for Android TV, and is released officially only on the Google Play store.
You can build an APK from the source code and run it on your Fire TV (and I know some people tried), but QuickBars relies on 2 permissions, both enabled for the QuickBars package:

1. Accessibility Services (for remote Trigger Key actions)
2. Display over other apps permission (to display QuickBars, camera PiPs and notifications)

AFAIK, FireTV doesn't have these permissions, but it is based on Android.
So, please check if you can enable them somehow using ADB, or another workaround.

I know other people have tried contacting me about it, but I couldn't provide much help - since Fire TV is not available at all in my country. I also don't know if they figured out some solution.

I will leave this discussion open, so other people with Fire TV (or you) could figure out a solution that works, if it's possible.
I know it'll benefit a lot of people from the USA.

Thanks. I've got it installed but it complains about missing Google Play but then continues into the app anyway. I've enabled Display over other apps with:
adb shell appops set dev.trooped.tvquickbars SYSTEM_ALERT_WINDOW allow
When I then issue
adb shell appops get dev.trooped.tvquickbars SYSTEM_ALERT_WINDOW

I get
SYSTEM_ALERT_WINDOW: allow

Suggesting that this bit has worked.

I can pair the app with my Home Assistant and have added a camera feed. However when I click on New Quickbar then the app simply exits back to the Fire TV menu.

I also haven't worked out what to do for the Accessibility Services. This page says that I need to enable a specific service. Is there one specifically for the Trigger Key that you can help me with?

I do not think that the page you linked is relevant, since it's for Android. IIRC Fire TV is based off of Android, but has extra restrictions.
What you need to achieve is to somehow enable accessibility for the QuickBars package, same as you did for the display over other apps permission.
The Accessibility service is a straightforward toggle - for the entire app package, and it's a requirement to have any functionality from the application.
