Audio Is Distorted if "Normalize" Options are Turned On - *VIDEO*

Serious Distortion and Echo's in any normalized audio in MP3 Format

I think this is the 3rd issue reported for the same problem.

I have tried loading this on two other computers and have confirmed I have FFMPEG installed and working properly, my RDIO-Scanner on the same computer is normalizing the same audio being sent without issue.

I have tried all the new Normalize options and the only setting that does not distort audio is the "Disabled" setting. Problem with this setting is that 6 different radio systems being fed in to one TLR Server equals 6 different levels and not really conducive to human listening.

You're not the only one.. normalization is converting from MP3, a lossy codec, to Opus, another lossy codec. I noticed the quality loss myself when I was using media conversion but the impact was minimal audibly, then I noticed it was impacting transcription and I believe tone detection as well. Ended up disabling it and enabling normalization with SDRTrunk, but I need to do some testing and comparison and see what SDRTrunk is doing to normalize audio before sending. There's no real detail anywhere.

Digital audio is a wild beast. In a perfect world, I'd like a compressor/limiter in the chain to smooth audio out, but that would require a lot of resources to manage in an environment like TLR so you gotta be reasonable. (I'm also an audio engineer at heart, so I'm very picky when it comes to that kind of thing too, lol) And honestly.. 99% of listeners aren't gonna know the difference or give a shit anyways. It's only those that pay really close attention, like we do.

@911systemsllc I don't have any issues with my audio, not saying you don't but if you want to email me your config file so i can setup a mock server on my end, then you can send me audio from sdr trunk or whatever program you are using, I can sit there for a few hours modifying the server code until clearer audio is produced. mchambers@thinlineds.com
