Starting a personal R package

What should/will the learning objective(s) be?

• Start building a personal package with a few functions (demo or own)
• Fill out the DESCRIPTION with rich metadata
• so that learners can continue packaging their own, often used functions

What do participants need to know / install / bring?

1. You should have already written some R functions or at least one or the other R script.
   • if not, please see the demo functions linked above
2. Run install.packages('usethis') in the R console.
3. Windows users: Please download the latest Rtools.

I changed the focus a bit towards personal packages, because it can be a starting point for later, project-specific packaging.
