Build project without Android SDK and AGP?

Could you just use raw javac, d8 and aapt2 with some open-source Android SDK alternative like the Debian Android SDK:

I'm not too sure I follow, Are you referring to the idea of removing the need of a build system (gradle here) for building apps from android-cli?

I'm open to this idea however for an experimental version of android-cli first. Although my expertise with java build systems is limited so I'd appreciate if you could lend me a helping hand?

Yes. I'm have two closely related ideas

1. moving the build system to android-cli
2. using an open-source Android SDK alternative as the .jar file for development
   (I'm not sure if the SDK is included in APKs, if so, also include the jarfile there)
