Problems switching between light- and dark mode

Hi,

I installed the app on CachyOS from the AUR and configured a light and a dark theme (Dawnfox for light and Catpucchin Macchiato for dark). However, switching back and forth in the settings leaves some apps like the GNOME settings, calendar and Planify in the dark theme, while Rewaita itself and the app menu, top-bar, and desktop background change to light mode.

Does anybody know how to resolve this?

I configured it to to so, GNOME Tweaks also shows it as a startup application. When I am grepping ps aux for rewaita, it only shows /usr/bin/python3 /usr/bin/rewaita --gapplication-service. But when I am manually running rewaita -b in a terminal, the behaviour does not change.

Is this like some apps are not themed or all of them? If it is just Flatpak applications that aren't working then just run the overrides and that should fix it (you can find them in the user guide).

Has CachyOS already updated to GNOME 50? I don't know if there could be something wrong there because Fedora is still on 49 and I don't test ahead.

The issue concerns system apps (am not using a flatpak app right now). And I am still running GNOME Shell 49.5 :-)
Regarding the background service – how can I check if it is running? And should rewaita -b spawn it and then terminate (which is the behaviour for me) or stay open and watch the events itself?

You can check system monitor and search 'rewaita', it should be there:

(This is the Flatpak Rewaita so it may look slightly different)

If you run rewaita -b and it is already open in the background, then nothing should happen because it is already hanging. But if you just run rewaita the window should just pop up.

Ah gotcha, the background service is not running according to the system menu and system monitor. And running rewaita -b doesn't change anything.

Hmmmm,

I was skimming through main.py and realized I made a huge oversight.

The .desktop file for autostarting only works with Flatpak, the command obviously won't work for the AUR version.

If you are curious as to why I would manually write to the file, it is because Libportal doesn't work with flags which I need for running in the background instead of just opening in a window.

Okay, so now the background service is running properly, thank you! However, switching still doesn't work. For example, gnome calendar used to switch to the default dark theme one hour ago (not to the specified colours), but now is stuck in light mode again. The terminal's header, in contrast, stays dark all the time. Rewaita itself still updates properly.

In the picture, you can see the top bar, desktop background, terminal and calendar app in both light and dark theme :)
