Rewaita theme not appearing in themes

OS: Ubuntu 24.04
DE: Gnome 46 (wayland)
Shell: zsh 5.9
Installation: Flatpak
Rewaita version: 1.1.1

The Rewaita theme is not appearing in Gnome Tweaks -> Appearance -> Styles -> Shell

Here is what is have tried:

1. Ensuring that User Themes extension is active
2. Ensuring flatpak permissions and rebooting

sudo flatpak override --filesystem=xdg-config/gtk-3.0:rw
sudo flatpak override --filesystem=xdg-config/gtk-4.0:rw

flatpak --user override --filesystem=xdg-config/gtk-3.0:rw
flatpak --user override --filesystem=xdg-config/gtk-4.0:rw

3. Ensuring that themes dirs exist (plus dark/light themes mentioned in some issues)

$ ls -d $HOME/.local/share/themes $HOME/.local/share/dark $HOME/.local/share/light

4. Ensuring permissions in Flatseal

What may I be missing?

Make sure generating the Gnome shell theme is enabled in preferences (hamburger menu -> preferences).

If that doesn't work, run:

flatpak run io.github.swordpuffin.rewaita

Then set some theme and give me the error message. If there really is nothing, another guess could be because you are on Gnome 46. Perhaps Rewaita is trying to interface with some setting that didn't exist then.

Sorry for getting back so late. I remember seeing this get opened but forgot about it.

Thanks for replying :) All options in the hamburger menu are toggled on. Here is the error message when setting a theme:

An additional observation is that it only happens when I try to set theme that has the same mode as my current shell, i.e. selecting a Light Theme (e.g. Alucard) when I'm on Dark Mode does not cause an error, and neither does selecting a Dark Theme (e.g. Breeze Dark) when I'm on Light Mode. The Rewaita theme is still not generated though.

Hmmm,

It can't read your accent colour, which is likely because you are on Gnome 46. I think they added accents properly in Gnome 47.

This is still a bug on my part, the error handling is supposed to default it to blue anyways so I will look into this further.

I'm not expecting you to update your system on my account, but Ubuntu 25.04 shouldn't have this issue as it uses Gnome 48.

That makes sense, thank you. I was planning to update to 26.04 as soon as it releases in April but Rewaita is well-worth going Interim earlier :)

Hi, I was also able to reproduce the Rewaita gnome-shell theme not being generated on Ubuntu 25.10. This version of Ubuntu doesn't run into the read accent error though, and actually doesn't throw any errors at all when selecting a theme.

I was actually able to work out why this was happening though. Rewaita currently only creates the gnome-shell theme when XDG_CURRENT_DESKTOP is set to exactly GNOME in the environment, but on Ubuntu this is set to ubuntu:GNOME 🙃

Anyway, running XDG_CURRENT_DESKTOP=GNOME flatpak run io.github.swordpuffin.rewaita seems to get this working for now.

Sounds awfully Ubuntu...

This is easy to fix on my end. I might release a micro-patch later this week as there is a few odd bugs that have popped up, and I would like see them out of the way.
