Hydrogen app doesn't work with certain paid plans

Steps to Reproduce

1. Create development store
2. Install Hydrogen app
3. Navigate to Settings > Plan
4. Notice Custom plan
5. Navigate to Sales channels > Hydrogen
6. Notice "The Hydrogen sales channel isn’t available on your plan. Compare plans."
7. Enable a paid custom plan (e.g. NPO plan)
8. Navigate to Settings > Plan
9. Notice Custom plan
10. Navigate to Sales channels > Hydrogen
11. Notice "The Hydrogen sales channel isn’t available on your plan. Compare plans."
12. Enable a paid core plan (e.g. Basic plan)
13. Navigate to Settings > Plan
14. Notice Basic plan
15. Navigate to Sales channels > Hydrogen
16. Notice the Hydrogen app loads correctly

Expected Behavior

The Hydrogen app should work with custom plans, on development stores and paid plans.

Actual Behavior

The Hydrogen app doesn't work and just displays "The Hydrogen sales channel isn’t available on your plan. Compare plans." instead.

Currently, the Hydrogen app doesn't work on development stores and requires a paid plan upfront, defeating the purpose of development stores.

We also have a client on a paid NPO plan needing the Hydrogen app, but unable to use it, for which we're getting a lot of very conflicting information from support.

We're assuming this is just an issue with the Hydrogen app that needs to be looked at.

You can still install Hydrogen via the command line using:

npm create @shopify/hydrogen@latest

The Hydrogen channel is if you want Shopify to host it via Oxygen but not needed if you want to host yourself. You will need to install the Headless channel to get access to your API keys. Once you have them, update the .env file to include the following keys

PUBLIC_STORE_DOMAIN=[store-name].myshopify.com
PUBLIC_STOREFRONT_ID=YOUR-STOREFRONT-ID

PUBLIC_STOREFRONT_API_TOKEN=YOUR-STOREFRONT-API-TOKEN
PRIVATE_STOREFRONT_API_TOKEN=YOUR-STOREFRONT-PRIVATAE-API-TOKEN

PUBLIC_CUSTOMER_ACCOUNT_API_CLIENT_ID=YOUR-STOREFRONT-CUSTOMER-API-ID
PUBLIC_CUSTOMER_ACCOUNT_API_URL=[store-name].myshopify.com

This will allow you to run your hydrogen app without the need for the Hydrogen channel.

Thanks, @eruiz-impact, that's correct, but that's why this issue is about the Hydrogen app and Oxygen, not Hydrogen itself.

The issue is indeed that the Hydrogen sales channel should work with these plans to support the development lifecycle of custom storefronts for developers and their launch for clients on paid plans.

I would bring this up via your Merchant Success Manager as this is a business-level decision.

I do agree that these use cases should be possible, unfortunately the current policy is paid stores only to prevent abuse of the included Oxygen hosting tier.

As outlined above, the Hydrogen app is not working on paid custom plans.

According to that policy, shouldn't a paying NPO be able to use the Hydrogen app?

I don't believe NPO plans have access to a Merchant Success Manager, they seem reserved to Shopify Plus?

To us, this seemed like something on the Hydrogen app side of things, like it was checking for a supported plan, but failing because of the custom plan.

It just seems like whatever condition was put in place is failing to account for NPO plans.

The support section of the app just goes to the documentation as well, is there any way to check this with the team behind the app?
